Commissioner Cresson to launch LEONARDO DA VINCI programme in Sweden and Finland
The European Commissioner responsible for science, research and development, education and training, Mrs. Edith Cresson, will launch the LEONARDO DA VINCI programme in Sweden on 4 May 1995 and in Finland on 5 May 1995. The traditional high standing of training and life-long commitment to training in these two countries will make an important contribution to the development and implementation of the programme throughout the Community. In Finland and Sweden, Commissioner Cresson will open a conference launching the LEONARDO DA VINCI programme which will be attended by prominent members of government. She will also visit the research centre of Nokia in Finland. LEONARDO DA VINCI has a minimum budget of ECU 620 million for the period 1995-1999 and will extend the life of Community vocational training projects, such as COMETT, PETRA, LINGUA and FORCE. The programme is designed for students, young people following basic training courses, and workers undergoing continuing training. The objectives of the programme are to: - Improve the quality of vocational training in Europe; - Encourage exchanges and placements; - Achieve a better understanding of vocational training, i.e. how it works and what the real needs are; - Encourage adaptation to the information society.
