A Commission proposal for a Council Decision (3 June 1991) concerns the conclusion of Cooperation Agreements on Science and Technology for Environmental Protection (STEP) between the European Economic Community and the Republic of Austria, the Republic of Finland and the Kingdom of Norway (COM(91) 94). The Community and the stated Governments share common environmental problems and expect to obtain mutual benefit from cooperation. Research areas comprise: Environment and human health; Assessment of risks associated with chemicals; atmospheric processes and air quality; water quality; soil and groundwater protection; ecosystem research; protection and conservation of the European cultural heritage; technologies for environmental protection; major technological hazards and fire safety. The texts of the Agreements are attached to this Decision.
