The European Commission, DG I, will launch a call for proposals for the ACE (Action for Cooperation in Economics) 1995 programme in the framework of the PHARE programme (subject to formal approval by the European Commission). The call has a budget of ECU 10 million. PHARE ACE provides grants for research projects, fellowships, scholarships, conference organization and active conference participation. As in previous years, the research projects remain the most important action and will account for approximately 70% of the total budget. ACE seeks to promote extensive cooperation among academic and professional economists in the Central and East European countries and the European Union in order to accelerate the transfer of know-how in all areas of economic research linked to the transformation to market economies. Applicants should pay special attention to the specified research topics and their relevance to the process of economic reform and integration. Dissemination of results must form an integral part of the research activities. The research topics should relate in particular to the following: - European integration; - Monetary and exchange rate policy; - Fiscal policy and tax reform; - Trade and commercial policy; - Labour markets; - Social security; - Privatization and corporate governance; - Finance and investment; - Industrial policy; - Regional policy; - Agricultural policy; - Environmental policy; - Transport and communications policy; - Energy policy; - Managerial aspects of reform in the private and public sector.
