Commission proposal for Directive on application of open network provision to voice telephony
The European Commission has published its proposal for a European Parliament and Council Directive on the application of open network provision (ONP) to voice telephony. The proposal concerns the harmonization of conditions of open and efficient access to, and use of, fixed public telephone networks and public telephone services, and the availability throughout the Community of a harmonized voice telephony service. The proposal does not apply to mobile telephony services except in so far as it concerns the interconnection between the networks used for public mobile telephony services and the fixed public telephone networks. If adopted, Member States must comply with the Directive by 31 December 1995.
