An EU-Canada Science and Technology Agreement was signed at a bilateral meeting between the two parties on 17 June 1995 in Luxembourg. The purpose of the Agreement is to bring private companies together to cooperate more fully in the field of science and technology, and to give Canadian researchers, institutes and companies access to European Union research and development programmes. This will not, however, stop EU Member states from concluding their own agreements with Canada in this domain. The Agreement concerns, in particular, the following areas: - Agriculture and fisheries; - Medical research; - Non-nuclear energy; - Environment and earth observation; - Forestry; - Information technologies; - Communication technologies; - Telematics applications in the field of economic and social development.
