The European Commission, Directorate-General XIII, has published an open call for proposals for a study entitled "Market development of telecommunications and integrated communications services to the year 2010 and the role of telecommunications regulatory changes at a European level". In the context of the political agreement for full telecommunications liberalization (services and infrastructure) in the European Union by the beginning of 1998, and the follow-up of Part II of the Telecommunications Infrastructure Green Paper, the European Commission intends to launch a study which will examine the market development of all telecommunications services and related information services and also assess the market impact of liberalization in the sector. The study should produce a solid quantitative and descriptive base and picture of the communications market and its evolution and a consistent breakdown of the market by country, market type and main supplying entity. Both historical, current and forecast data for telecommunications markets and related markets are required. The study will be used not simply for assessing market development and the impact of regulation but also in framing future regulatory proposals in the telecommunications area. Requests for the terms of reference for the studies should be sent to: European Commission DG XIII/A Mr. P. Picard 200 rue de la Loi (BU-9 5/176) B-1049 Brussels Tel. +32-2-2968342; Fax +32-2-2968393
