The European Commission has published an invitation to tender for the completion of a study monitoring the evolution in the competitiveness of the EU mechanical engineering industry. The aim of the study will be to provide the Commission, the Member States and industry with the following: - An analysis of the main economic, industrial, commercial and technical indicators of the EU mechanical engineering industry and its sub-sectors in relation with its supplier and end-user industries; - An inquiry into company business strategies in this sector; -A survey of the EU's and its Member States' industrial and related policies and measures applicable to the sector; -A report including an assessment of the sector's current global competitiveness in comparison with USA, Japan and other significant competitors, and its prospects, taking into account the impact of public policy; - Over the next four years, a monitoring of the evolution of the above indicators and the policies applied to this sector.
