The European Commission, DG XVI, has published a restricted invitation to tender for a study relating to coordinated actions in the environmental field on the Greek islands of Santorini and Thirassia. This study will be financed by the Cohesion Fund which was established by the Treaty on European Union to strengthen economic and social cohesion and to reduce the backwardness of less-advantaged regions. To achieve this aim, the Cohesion Fund is making a financial contribution to the realization of projects in the environmental sector and in the area of trans-European networks with regard to transport infrastructure. Within this context, the aim of this study will be to develop a strategy for coordinated actions in the environmental field on the Greek islands of Santorini and Thirassia, including: - Technical proposals in the fields of drinking water supply, wastewater treatment, collection and processing of household refuse; - Proposals relating to the management and implementation of these services. The study shall examine the aforementioned sectors in detail and analyse possible interaction between these areas so as to propose a global for the islands of Santorini and Thirassia, taking account of the insular and touristic singularity of the site. The study should include two inseparable parts: - Detailed analysis of the situation as regards the environment in the specified sectors and definition of a strategy for the implementation of a coordinated approach in this field. This should include: . A cost estimate; . an accurate description of the technical solutions on the engineering level; . A timetable for the completion of works; . A cost-benefit analysis; . Studies on environmental impact; - Proposals relating to the management of the project and completion of the services over a period to be determined. Parties wishing to be included on a short list for the call for tender are invited to express their interest in writing (working languages will be Greek and either French, English or German). The Commission will subsequently select a limited number of candidates to be invited to submit a tender for the study. Expressions of interest should be sent to: European Commission DG XVI Regional Policies and Cohesion Mr J. F.
