Freezing out fluorinated greenhouse gases

As temperatures continue to rise, more and more people are using air conditioning to stay cool. But doing so means an increase in emissions.

With the goal of reducing hydrofluorocarbon emissions by 74 000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent a year, Refrigerants LIFE Cycle developed an installation capable of separating refrigerant waste mixtures. Instead of being burned, the used refrigerants are converted into full-value refrigerants that, thanks to an innovative collection and storage system, can be reused for cooling purposes. Backed by a comprehensive awareness raising campaign, the project looks to have more than 450 companies transferring their refrigeration waste for processing.
