A Council Decision of 22 July 1991 amends Decision 87/569/EEC (OJ No L 346 of 10.12.1987) concerning an action programme for the vocational training of young people and their preparation for adult and working life (PETRA). The amended programme is adopted for a further three years from 1 January 1992 to support, at Community level, activities of the Member States intended to ensure that all young people who so wish may receive one or, if possible, two years initial vocational training in addition to their full-time compulsory education. The programme also aims to support Member States' policies to raise the standards and quality of initial vocational training, add a Community dimension and stimulate cooperation, developing opportunities for young people to benefit from periods of training or work experience in other Member States. The total appropriation deemed necessary for the programme is ECU 177.4 million (including ECU 29 million for the period 1991-92). An Annex details programme objectives and implementation.
