The European Commission has published its amended proposal for a European Parliament and Council Decision laying down a series of actions aimed at creating a more favourable context for the development of trans-European networks in the energy sector (OJ No C 72 of 10.3.1994 p. 15). The amendments refer to the need for a common energy strategy which specifies not only the main criteria and objectives of the European Community in this field but also, and in particular, the conditions for the liberalization of the market in energy products. They also stress the importance of the trans-European energy networks in reducing energy supply costs and contributing to a higher rate of economic growth.
