"Euroabstracts" is published each month by DG XIII of the European Commission. It provides abstracts of Community RTD publications in addition to a review of RTD results, policies and activities. The October 1995 issue features an article entitled "Protecting the future by conserving the past: European research in cultural heritage" which presents the Commission's research programmes which address the threat by air pollution and other forms of environmental degradation affecting Europe's unique heritage. An article entitled "Clear guidance in open systems procurement" deals with a handbook produced by the Commission's EPHOS (European Procurement Handbook for Open Systems) initiative to provide help for procurers with IT solutions based on open systems standards. The book review section carriers reviews of a number of publications, including "The ethics of human embryo research", "Improving efficiency of drugs", "Towards utilising telematics-based services", "Assessing the quality of bathing water", "Building bridges in European Biotechnology" and "Agro-industrial research: ECLAIR progress". In addition, two reports look at "European experience in regional innovation" and the "New challenges in agricultural research". The abstracts section includes some 50 pages of abstracts of recent Community publications on research, science and technology covering a wide range of subjects: chemistry; earth sciences; engineering and technology; energy; life sciences; materials; mathematics, computers and telecommunications; nuclear science and engineering and physics.
