The European Commission's satellite information service "Europe by Satellite" (EBS) resumed its transmissions on Monday 4 September 1995. EBS is part of the Commission's ongoing policy for greater openness and transparency. The service is available to television companies (local, regional and national) within the EU, the Mediterranean area and in Central and Eastern Europe, as well as to national and regional EU institutions. EBS provides a daily Monday to Friday service of pictures illustrating Commission and EU news, both live and pre-recorded. Footage on the activities of the EU institutions and other major events are broadcast by satellite to television stations all over Europe to illustrate their daily news programmes or to file for future transmissions. The live coverage of events is supported by relevant thematic video files with international sound track transmitted the day before the event in question. Supplementary information will be available on teletext, e-mail and by fax.
