The European Commission has approved a Spanish aid scheme aimed at supporting investments linked to environmental improvements in the region of Castille-Leon. As a general rule, aid may be awarded for up to 30% of expenditure although, exceptionally, this percentage may be exceeded. These grants may be cumulated with other State aids as long as the following levels of aid are not surpassed: - 50% in the provinces of Leon, Zamora, Salamanca, Avila, and Soria; - 40% in the provinces of Burgos, Segovia, Valladolid and Palencia. The scheme will last two years (1994-1995) and will dispose of a budget of ECU 900,000. Actions eligible for aid are: - Installation and development of systems to eliminate pollution; - Measures aimed at reducing pollution, liquid, gas and solid, and the introduction of clean technologies; - Waste recycling; - Recuperation of areas spoilt by industrial activity.
