The Council of the European Union has published a Resolution concerning the Scientific and Technical Research Committee (CREST). CREST was originally established under the Council Resolution of 14 January 1974, on the coordination of national policies and the definition of projects of interest to the Community in the field of science and technology. The present Resolution adjusts the terms of reference of CREST in view of recent developments. CREST is defined as "an advisory body whose function is to assist the Council and the Commission in performing the tasks incumbent on them in the sphere of RTD". In particular, the role of Crest is determined as being: - To identify strategic priorities for Community policy in the field of RTD; - To promote coordination of RTD activities between the Community and the Member States; - To keep under review the independent assessment of the specific RTD programmes and the Framework Programme; - To contribute to the formulation for Community strategy for international cooperation in the area of research. Under the terms of this Resolution, CREST's activities will also include: - The dissemination and exploitation of the results of RTD activities and their impact on competitiveness and employment in the Community; - Training activities through and for research and their response to innovation needs.
