The European Commission's Information Society Project Office (ISPO) has published, in collaboration with DG XIII and DG III, an invitation to tender for the provision of services for the Global Inventory Project (GIP). The Global Inventory Project (GIP) is a pilot project, identified by the G7 partners, which aims at producing a multimedia inventory of significant projects, studies and other initiatives for the promotion and development of knowledge and understanding of the information society to Government officials, industry and the public at large. It will build upon and complement on-going national and international activities and will provide value-added input to the analysis and assessment of the social, economic and cultural factors impacting on the development of the information society. The GIP is envisaged as a decentralized system with a centralized master indexing and directory service. It will be based upon the World Wide Web and other technologies that are easy to use and commonly available in all countries. The GIP will be built around off-the-shelf hardware and software, although some minor customizing of the software may be required. ISPO, in its role as coordinator of the GIP, is launching this call for tenders for the provision of the following services: - The definition of user requirements; - The preparation of functional specifications of the system; - System engineering and design; - System installation, customizing of software and test; - Definition and implementation of measures for the participation of non-EU countries; - Assistance with the collection of initiatives within the EU; - Promotion of GIP. The services to be provided are detailed in the terms of reference, which are available upon request. Requests for the terms of reference for this tender may be made, in writing, to: The European Commission Information Society Project Office (ISPO) 200 rue de la Loi (BU24 2/78) B-1049 Brussels Tel. +32-2-2968800; Fax +32-2-2994180 When requests are made by facsimile, they must be confirmed by letter dispatched before the deadline indicated.
