European Commission support for SMEs in the Corsica Region
The European Commission, on a proposal from Mrs. Monika Wulf-Mathies, Commissioner responsible for regional policy and cohesion, has adopted a programme aimed at supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the French region of Corsica. The programme has been adopted within the framework of the Community SME initiative and will benefit from ECU 3,041,000 of Community aid. The contribution from the Community Structural Funds represents 20% of the total cost of the programme. The European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) will contribute ECU 2.6 million and the European Social Fund ECU 441,000. The activities foreseen under this programme are aimed primarily at supporting innovation in small, artisanal, industrial and service enterprises in the following three areas: - Improvement of production systems, environmental awareness, support for activities aimed at creating regional networks; - Development of sub-contracting and access of companies to new communication systems; - Creation of a credit fund innovative SMEs.
