RTD programme: Agriculture and agro-industry (1990-1994)
A Council Decision of 9 September 1991 (91/504/EEC) adopts a specific RTD and demonstration programme in the field of agriculture and agro-industry, including fisheries, from 9 September 1991 to 31 December 1994. Objectives and scientific and technical content of the programme, embracing agriculture, horticulture, forestry, fisheries and aquaculture, include: Primary production in these areas (adapting primary production to the quantitative and qualitative demands of the market and the consumers, taking account of Community policies and their evolution); Inputs to these areas (contributing to the competitiveness and viability of undertakings through better control of inputs and a reduction in production costs); Processing of biological raw materials (pre-competitive R&D providing the basis for processes for new or improved, competitive products in the food, non-food and energy sectors); End use and products (generation of a better knowledge of the characteristics, as needed by users and consumers, with particular reference to public health and the environment, of final products derived from biological materials). Funds estimated as necessary for the execution of the programme amount to ECU 329.67 million, plus a sum of ECU 3.33 million for dissemination and exploitation of results.
