A Commission proposal for a Council Regulation on specific action to protect the environment in the coastal areas and waters of the Irish Sea, North Sea, Baltic Sea and North East Atlantic Ocean (COM(90) 480) was approved by the European Parliament on 9 July 1991 with 32 Amendments. The text of these amendments is now available in the Official Journal. A Resolution included in the same Official Journal embodies the opinion of Parliament on the results of the North Sea Conferences, which have relevance in the context of.the Commission Proposal. Inter alia, Parliament points to the urgent need to take drastic action to clean up the North Sea, notes the efforts already made by some Member States and the initiatives still to be taken, notes that progress has been made at the conferences, has regard for the forthcoming 1995 conference in Denmark, and calls on the participating countries to take the action set out in the body of the Resolution, which considers legal, policy/principle, implementation and future aspects of the NSC action plans.
