The European Commission, DG X, has published a call for proposals for youth information projects relating to the EU, its institutions and achievements, and the state of Europe in general. In its role as a provider of information, the European Commission wishes to promote information campaigns, about the European Union, targeted at young people. It is, therefore, planning to implement an "Action for Young People - 1996" to be aimed primarily at young people between 15 and 25. Within the framework of this action, the Commission will support a limited number of initiatives and projects in the field of information and communication with a European dimension. The aims of the "Action for Young People - 1996" will be: - To develop young people's awareness of the creation of a "People's Europe"; - To inform young people about the European Union in general and about its institutions and policies; - To inform the target group about the priority subjects for the European Union in 1996: job creation, the Intergovernmental Conference on reform of the Maastricht Treaty, the Economic and Monetary Union (in particular the single currency to be known as the Euro), and the enlargement of the Union. Innovative proposals from public and private organizations and institutions, groups and associations in the Member States are invited. Proposals must involve at least three Member States. Projects with a commercial interest, and projects subsidized by other EU programmes will not be eligible. The grant awarded to a project will not exceed 50% of total expenses, or ECU 40,000. This action is separate from, but complementary to, the Community's Youth for Europe programme, administered by DG XXII of the Commission. Application forms may be obtained from: European Commission DG X - Information, communication, culture and audiovisual media Action for Young People General Public Unit (X/A-5) 200 rue de la Loi B-1049 Brussels Fax +32-2-2999202 or from Commission offices in the Member States.
