The European Commission, DG III, has published the first edition of an "Electronic Commerce Inventory" which provides an overview of ongoing initiatives in the growing area of electronic commerce. The initiatives included in the inventory were initially presented at a Commission workshop on electronic commerce which took place in Brussels, Belgium, on 13 February 1996. The inventory outlines the objectives and main field of activity of these initiatives and is intended to serve as a background document to a follow-up workshop planned to take place in mid-April 1996. In this context, and as part of its new emphasis on electronic commerce RTD, the Community's specific RTD programme in the field of information technologies (ESPRIT) will be supporting proposals for electronic commerce pilot projects under its call of 15 March 1996. Electronic commerce is part of the Technologies for business area of the ESPRIT work programme.
