Amended proposal for financial instrument for the environment - LIFE
The European Commission has published its amended proposal for a Council Regulation amending Regulation 1973/92/EEC establishing a financial instrument for the environment (LIFE), following the European Parliament's report at first reading. The purpose of the proposal is to renew the Community's LIFE finance instrument for environmental projects from 1996 to 1999. The amended proposal places more emphasis on the participation of Central and Eastern European Countries, with which the Community has signed an Association Agreement, and in particular allows the possibility of these countries receiving Community funding, on a case-by-case basis. The proposal will now be considered by the Council of Ministers of the European Union, who will make the final decision on the text of the Regulation.
