Integrated control of ticks and tick-borne diseases
Integrated control of ticks and tick-borne diseases is a concerted action project supported by the European Community's specific RTD programme in the field of cooperation with developing third countries and international organizations (INCO-DC), following the call for proposals published on 15 March 1995. The objective of the project is to provide a forum for the exchange of information, through regular meetings and small-scale workshops, with the aim of contributing to the control of tropical ticks and tick-borne diseases in developing countries. The main activity supported by the project will be short-term (up to two weeks) exchange visits of researchers between participating laboratories, to facilitate the exchange of knowledge. The three specific areas for activities under the project are: - Vaccine development; - Development of improved ELISA (Enzyme-Linked ImmunoSorbent Assay) and PCR diagnostics; - Epidemiology and socio-economics.
