The European Parliament and Council of the European Union have published Decision No 719/96/EC of 29 March 1996 establishing the KALEIDOSCOPE programme to support artistic and cultural activities in Europe. The programme has a budget of ECU 26.5 million and will run from 1 January 1996 to 31 December 1998. It aims, by means of cooperation at European level between Member States, to promote awareness and dissemination of European culture, particularly in the fields of the performing arts, visual arts and applied arts. KALEIDOSCOPE will include the following actions: - Support for events and cultural projects carried out in partnership or through networks; - Large-scale cooperation actions; - Involvement of third countries; - European city of culture and European cultural month; - Improvement in cultural cooperation between professionals in the cultural sector.
