A "Centre de Ressources et d'Information pour la Formation dans les Professions Sociales" (CRIPS) (resource and information centre for training in the social services) has opened in Bucharest, Romania, with funding from the PHARE programme for economic aid to countries in Central and Eastern Europe. Inaugurated in May 1996, CRIPS works as an information and documentation centre specialized in the field of training for the social services. It was set up as part of the "Staff training for social workers, medical social welfare workers and educational workers" project under the CNPC-PHARE programme for the protection of children. The centre will work in close collaboration with other pilot training projects run under this programme. In addition to providing information about social services training, the centre contains a database for public use, access to documentation (publications, videos, press cuttings, an information bulletin, etc.), and will assist with researching the necessary information and with creating training documents for individual needs (guides, thematic dossiers, etc.).
