ESPRIT - Building the Information Society
The European Commission, DG XII, has published a general information brochure entitled "ESPRIT - Information Technologies Programme - Building the Information Society". The brochure describes the objectives, tasks and projects of the different technical fields of the ESPRIT programme, which are: - Underpinning technologies: . Software technologies; . Technologies for components and subsystems; . Multimedia systems; - Long-term research; - Systems integration - focused clusters: . Open microprocessor systems initiative (OMI); . High performance computing and networking (HPCN); . Technologies for business processes (TBP); . Integration in manufacturing. The brochure also provides information about participating in the ESPRIT programme. Calls will be published four times a year, on 15 March, 15 June, 15 September and 15 December. There are also open calls for SME exploratory awards, for certain long-term research projects, and for certain accompanying measures. Finally, the brochure provides examples of noteworthy results generated by the ESPRIT programme during 1993 and 1994.
