A symposium presenting the results of EU research on severe accidents in fission safety, FISA'95, took place in Luxembourg from 20 to 22 November 1995. The European Commission, DG XII, has now published the proceedings of this symposium. The symposium presented the results of the EU Nuclear Fission Safety programme for the period 1991 to 1995. This programme, which came to an end in June 1995, focused on the examination of hypothetical severe accident phenomena and the development of confinement measures for radioactivity in light-water reactors. The proceedings contain the papers presented at FISA'95, in the following fields: - Core degradation; - Molten fuel/coolant interaction; - Reactor pressure vessel; - Molten corium/concrete interaction; - Hydrogen behaviour; - Accident management support; - Containment; - Source term. The proceedings also contain a list of participants in the symposium.
