The European Commission has amended the ADAPT Community initiative to introduce an additional priority entitled ADAPT-BIS, which aims at helping to build the Information Society. The ADAPT initiative provides assistance to projects which contribute to adapting the workforce to industrial change, and which improve the workings of the labour market. Proposals for support are presented by Member States. Measures which may be supported include: - Supply of training, counselling and guidance; - Anticipation and promotion of networking and new employment opportunities; - Adaptation of support structures and systems; - Information, dissemination and awareness actions. The financial contribution of the Structural Funds to ADAPT-BIS will be ECU 162 million for the period 1996 to 1999. Of this, ECU 51 million will be allocated to Objective 1 and 6 regions.
