Development of a mine-detection system for use in civil mine-clearance operations
The European Commission, DG IA, has published a call for proposals for services related to the development of a mine-detection system for use in civil mine-clearance operations. It is expected that the eventual system will involve the enhancement and integration of a number of different mine-detection sensors, and their refinement for operation in specific geographical regions. The objective of the call is therefore to: - Establish the management framework and overall project plan for a wider follow-on development programme; - Carry out supporting feasibility studies for each of the selected sensor systems (probably three) and the multi-sensor data fusion; - Conduct trial measurements in a selected region (probably Bosnia). Emphasis will be placed on assisting the most rapid development and introduction into service of enhanced, user-friendly mine-detection equipment, designed for civil use and relevant to the requirements of the terrain and environment and which will significantly increase the speed of civilian mine-clearance operations to humanitarian standards. Requests for the tenders documents, and completed tenders, must be submitted to: European Commission DG IA - External relations: Europe and the Newly Independent States, common foreign and security policy and external missions Mr. Ivan Schroef 200 rue de la Loi B-1049 Brussels Fax +32-2-2950580
