The European Commission, DG X, has published a notice of a call for proposals implementing the MEDIA II programme of encouragement for the development and distribution of European audiovisual productions (1996-2000).

The MEDIA II programme was adopted by the Council on 11 July 1995 (95/563/EC) and published in Official Journal No L 321 of 30 December 1995. Among the actions to be brought into effect by virtue of this Decision are:

- Promotion of the development of production projects aimed in particular at the European market;
- Encouragement for the development of production companies.

The call is addressed to independent European production companies whose activities contribute to the aims outlined above.
European companies wishing to respond to the call should request the "Guidelines for the submission of proposals with a view to obtaining financial assistance in the development sector" from:
