ECU 249 million from Structural Funds for Italian roads and motorways
The European Commission has awarded ECU 249 million from the Structural Funds for a programme of infrastructure projects in southern Italy. The funding, which is to be matched by national funding, will go to a number of priority projects which are part of the trans-European transport networks. The projects include dualling of some roads, establishing new routes, and improving safety on existing roads. The roads to be improved are: Messina to Palermo motorway; Salerno to Reggio Calabria route; Sassari to Cagliari route; Bari to Otranto route; Brindisi to Lametia Terme route.
