Review of socio-economic trends and target sectors of Fifth Environmental Action Programme
The European Environment Agency has launched an open call to tender for the completion of a study of societal trends in relation to the environment in Europe. The aim of the study is to review, assess and interpret existing studies on societal trends and scenarios, including general information on socio-economic trends (demography, households and economy). It should also include specific information on the five target sectors of the Community's Fifth Environmental Action programme, namely agriculture, industry, energy, transport and tourism. The results of the study are intended to contribute to the preparation of the agency's next two state-of-the-environment reports to be published in 1998 (one for the European Union and the other covering the whole of Europe). In addition, the results will also help support the European Commission in the preparation of its next Environmental Action Programme. The review of such studies is expected to lead to the selection of adequate scenarios to be used in the above-mentioned reports: as an assessment of societal developments and as input for computing emission and waste projections. The information resulting from the selected studies should be catalogued according to the specifications to be provided by the EEA. These specifications will be in line with the DPSIR framework (driving forces, pressures, states, impacts and responses) used by the agency for reporting purposes. A draft list of driving forces indicators will be provided in the tender specifications for guidance. The expected final results of the work will be: - Two separate datasets - one for the EU and one for Europe - with catalogued information; - Two separate reports - one for the EU and one for Europe - on the outcome of the above-mentioned activities. The results of the study should be delivered within 12 months.
