Conceptual consolidation of existing terminologies in Eurodicautom
The translation service of the European Commission has published a call for expressions of interest in services relating to the conceptual consolidation of the Eurodicautum multilingual database. Eurodicautom has been developed to assist translators and other officials in their search for the correct term to be employed in technical documents. It contains more than 600,000 term entries and 185,000 abbreviations and acronyms in all the official and working languages of the Union. The translation service is embarking on an operation to consolidate the terminology collected in Eurodicautom with a view to increasing the reliability of the database. Bodies and persons who are interested in having their names entered on a list of potential contractors are invited to submit an application in accordance with the rules set out in the tender documents. The list established as a result of this call will be divided into sublists, each of which will correspond to a specific subject area. A sublist will be established for each of the following priority subject fields: - Sublist 1: Economics; - Sublist 2: Law (excluding Community Law); - Sublist 3: Finance; - Sublist 4: Medicine; - Sublist 5: Telecommunications; - Sublist 6: Environment; - Sublist 7: Transport. Sublists will also be established for each of the following subject fields: Agriculture; Fine Arts; Botany and Zoology; Building Industry; Chemical Industries; Chemistry; Commerce; Communications; Defence; Documentation; Home Economics; Education; Electrical Engineering; Geology; History; Informatics; Insurance; International Organizations; Iron & Steel Industries; Labour Market; Linguistics; Management; Mathematics; Mechanical Engineering; Mining; Nuclear Industry; Physics; Politics; Printing and Publishing; Social Affairs; Sports; Standards; Statistics. Candidates should clearly specify in their expression of interest the fields in which they are interested and, for each such field, the language(s) for which they wish to bid.
