The National Radiological Protection Board (NRPB) of the United Kingdom has, since 1990, carried out a number of research projects in the field of radiation protection on behalf of the European Commission (DG XII). The NRPB has published a book, entitled "European advances in radiological protection 1993-1995", outlining the achievements of a number of projects carried out in the period 1993 to 1995. The book covers projects in the following areas: - Inhalation and ingestion of radionuclides; - Measurement of spectral and angular distribution of external radiations in the workplace and implications for personal dosimetry; - Induction of chromosomal changes in human and rodent cells by accelerated charged particles: early and late radiation effects; - Dosimetry and effects of parental, fetal and neonatal exposure to incorporated radionuclides and external radiation; - Radon sources, models and countermeasures; - Epidemiological studies and tables; - Studies related to the expression of the detriment associated with radiation exposure; - Reduction of the risk of late effects from incorporated radionuclides; - Medical dose assessment and evaluation of risk.
