The Joint Research Centre, the European Commission's corporate research laboratory, has published its Annual Report for 1995. The annual report covers the JRC's activities during 1995, which was the first year of a new approach in which the JRC has, in addition to its institutional activities, become involved in competitive activities. The JRC comprises eight institutes in five locations and, at the end of 1995, had a total statutory staff of 1,786 and 319 visiting staff. The total budget for 1995 amounted to ECU 257.1 million. During 1995, a total of 1,222 publications were published by the JRC, and 26 patents were granted as a result of research undertaken in the Centre. The annual report contains details of both the institutional and competitive activities of the JRC during 1995, as well as issues affecting its management. The work of each of the eight JRC institutes is also covered, although further information on these is contained in their individual annual reports.
