Results of second BIOMED call for proposals
The European Commission, DG XII, has released preliminary information on the results of the second call for proposals for RTD actions under the specific RTD programme in the field of Biomedicine and Health (BIOMED II), launched on 15 March 1996 (OJ No C 75 of 15.3.1996 p. 20). A total of 769 proposals were submitted, requesting funding of ECU 825 million. The breakdown of submissions by programme area is: - Area 1. Pharmaceuticals research: 89 proposals; - Area 2. Research on biomedical technology and engineering: 200 proposals; - Area 3. Brain research: 222 proposals; - Area 4.2. Research on AIDS, tuberculosis and other infectious diseases: 125 proposals; - Area 5. Human genome research: 98 proposals. In addition 35 proposals for shared cost demonstration projects (Area 8.2) were submitted.
