JRC Remote Sensing Institute - 1995 Annual Report
The Institute for Remote Sensing Applications of the European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC) has published its 1995 Annual Report. The Institute for Remote Sensing Applications (IRSA), in common with the other Institutes of the JRC, undertakes work in four areas: institutional research under the Framework Programmes; institutional support for the Commission's services; exploratory research in promising areas; and competitive research activities, both in the Community's specific RTD programmes and for outside organizations. During 1995, IRSA's major activities concerned a number of large applications projects, including: MARS (monitoring agriculture with remote sensing); FIRS (forest information from remote sensing); TREES (tropical ecosystem and environment observation by satellites); FIRE (fire in global resource and environmental monitoring); and the CEO (Centre for Earth Observation project). The Institute comprises six units, with a total staff, in 1995, of 177: - Agricultural information systems; - Environmental mapping and modelling; - Marine environment; - Monitoring of tropical vegetation; - Advanced techniques; - Centre for Earth Observation.
