COST project publishes results of steam-turbine rotor stress/fatigue research
In the context of European Cooperation in the field of Scientific and Technical research (COST), work has been undertaken in the field of high temperature materials, including "Materials for steam turbines" (COST project 505). A publication entitled "Stress corrosion cracking and corrosion fatigue of steam-turbine rotor and blade materials" studies aspects of these processes, which are important in the design of rotating components for use in the low pressure cylinders of steam turbines. A newly developed steel is characterised and its suitability for turbine blades in this part of the machine is considered. The publication is available, in English, from the Office for Official Publications, price ECU 6.25 excluding VAT (Reference EUR 13186 EN; ISBN 92-826-2017-4).
