The 1997 competition for the European Information Technology Prize (ITEA'97) has recently been launched, following the award of ITEA'96 at the end of November 1996. The Prize, which is organized by the Community's specific programme in the field of Information Technologies (ESPRIT) and the European Council of Applied Sciences and Engineering (Euro-CASE), will be awarded at the annual European Information Technology Conference (EITC), to be held in Brussels from 24 to 26 November 1997. The 1997 theme will be "Novel products with a high IT content and evident market potential". Products should be at least a demonstrable prototype and, if on the market already, should have been introduced into the market no earlier than 1 June 1995. There will be a maximum of three Grand Prizes, worth ECU 200,000 each, while up to 25 prizes of ECU 5,000 will be awarded to companies who reach the short list. Five of these prizes will be reserved for applicants from Central and Eastern European countries. In addition to the prizes, short-listed applicants will have the opportunity to exhibit their products at the European IT Conference Exhibition, and will benefit from extensive media coverage.
