The European Commission has awarded ECU 55 million from the MEDA programme for two major infrastructure projects in Morocco and Lebanon. In Morocco, ECU 30 million will go to fund the improvement of roads and tracks in ten rural provinces in the north of the country, with a population of around 6 million. In Lebanon, the money (ECU 25 million) will fund technical assistance, training, and purchases of equipment, to be used for repairs, extension and modernization of the country's infrastructure. This funding will go to projects in the energy, public works, public transport, water management and environmental protection sectors. This aid to Lebanon comes in the framework of the international efforts for reconstruction in Lebanon.
