ECU 20 million for Swiss-Italian regional cooperation
The European Commission has awarded ECU 20 million for a trans-frontier cooperation programme between Italy and Switzerland, under the INTERREG Community Initiative. The programme will fund development in the following regions: Val d'Aosta, Piedmont, and Lombardy in Italy, and the province of Bolzano in Switzerland. Community funding will be complemented by funding from the countries and from the private sector, with total costs of the programme around ECU 52 million. The funding will be used for three main priorities: - Promotion and economic growth, including cooperation between entrepreneurs and institutions and improvement of infrastructure; - Optimization of resources and agricultural, forestry and fisheries production; - Management, preservation and optimization of natural, historical and cultural heritage.
