The European Commission, DG XII, has published the third call for proposals for R&D projects under the JOULE component of the specific RTD programme in the field of non-nuclear energy (JOULE/THERMIE). The call is for research activities in the following areas, as described in the Work Programme: - Area 2: Rational use of energy (RUE): . Area 2.1: RUE in buildings (topics 2.1A1; 2.1A2; 2.1A4); - Area 3: Renewable energies: . Area 3.1: Integration of renewable energies (topics 3.1A1; 3.1A2; 3.1A3; 3.1.A4); . Area 3.2: Solar photovoltaic (topics 3.2A1; 3.2A2; 3.2A3; 3.2A4; 3.2A5); . Area 3.3: Renewable energies in buildings (topics 3.3A1; 3.3A2; 3.3A3; 3.3A4); . Area 3.4: Wind energy (topics 3.4A1; 3.4A2; 3.4A3; 3.4A4; 3.4A5); . Area 3.5: Energy from biomass and waste (topics 3.5A1; 3.5A2; 3.5A3; 3.5A4; 3.5A5); . Area 3.7: Geothermal energy (topics 3.7A1; 3.7A2); . Area 3.8: Energy storage and further options (topics 3.8A1; 3.8A2; 3.8A3); - Area 4: Fossil fuels: . Area 4.1: Clean technologies for solid fuels: .Area 4.1.1: Conventional steam cycles (topic 4.1A1). Proposals for RTD projects (shared-cost actions) in the above areas of the JOULE/THERMIE Work Programme should be made following consultation of the latest edition of the Information Package and Work Programme, which may be obtained from the Commission.
