The future of biotechnologies in Europe
The proceedings of the "Club de Bruxelles" conference on the "Future of biotechnologies in Europe", held in September 1996, are now available. The conference was supported by the Community's specific RTD programme in the field of Biotechnology (BIOTECH). The conference, which was addressed by Commissioner Edith Cresson, national officials and MEPs, covered the following topics: - Development and the role of biotechnology R&D in the EU; - Innovation in healthcare - Novel pharmaceutical products; - New crops from plant biotechnology; - The "greening" of industry - clean products and processes; - Biotechnology in European society - public perceptions; - Industrial competitiveness and biotechnological innovation. The proceedings (120 pages) come with the studies and documentation (230 pages) prepared for participants at the conference.
