SME-NET - Support for SME's access to the WWW
Brussels Technopol, the Innovation Relay Centre in Brussels, has launched a project which gives a limited number of small enterprises free access to the Internet. All these enterprises need to pay for is the cost of the call to the Technopol server. The SMEs participating in this project are thus given the opportunity to gain experience in the use and commercial benefits of the Internet. They can create their own Web pages presenting their company and their products and services. They can also use the Web to obtain added value commercial information on competitors and potential new customers. At a monthly meeting, the project participants report on follow-up meetings from the commercial use of the Web and exchange their experiences with other project participants. During these monthly meetings, Brussels Technopol notes potential problems, questions and commercial opportunities arising from the project and distributes this information to 4,000 other companies via newsletters, direct mailings and multimedia seminars. Brussels Technopol also develops and organizes training modules to help the members of the project start up productive use of Internet services. These activities are also part of Brussels Technopol's activities as a member of the MIDAS-NET network, created within the framework of the INFO2000 programme. This network aims to promote the development and use of multimedia content in Europe.
