INCO - Cooperation with third countries and international organizations
The European Community's specific RTD programme in the field of cooperation with third countries and international organizations (INCO) has published a brochure outlining the Community's cooperative research activities with third countries and other international fora. The INCO programme has a budget of ECU 575 million for the four years (1994-1998) of the Fourth Framework Programme. This is split between four areas of cooperation, as follows: - International organizations: ECU 49 million; - Central and Eastern European countries and former Soviet Union: ECU 247 million; - Non-European industrialized countries: ECU 32 million; - Developing countries: ECU 247 million. The brochure contains details of the aims and objectives of cooperative activities in each of these areas. In addition, it also gives examples of projects supported and overall figures for the numbers of projects supported. In addition to research projects and other cooperative activities, the INCO programme also supports initiatives such as INTAS, which funds cooperative research involving scientists from the New Independent States of the former Soviet Union, and the International Science and Technology Centre (ISTC), established in Russia, which aims to support the conversion of military scientists to civilian activities.
