Migration and attenuation of priority pollutants in landfill pollution plumes
The European Commission, DG XII, has published the 13th in a series of reports on technologies for environmental protection, entitled "Factors controlling the migration and attenuation of priority pollutants in landfill pollution plumes". The report summarizes the results of a research project (STEP CT90069) carried out, between 1991 and 1994, with support from the European Community. The project studied plumes at three different landfill sites. These plumes were characterized in terms of groundwater composition and sediment composition, with the aim of describing the redox environments in the plume and in terms of the distribution of organic chemicals and heavy metals in the groundwater. In addition, mineralogical and microbial investigations were also performed.
