Commission awards ECU 54.4 million to Nordjylland, Denmark
The European Commission is to award ECU 54.4 million to the Danish region of Nordjylland, under Objective 2 of the Structural Funds. The Community funding, which is expected to be part of a total investment of ECU 222.3 million, will go to 16 of the 27 municipalities of the region, with a combined population of 375,000. The funding will contribute to the regeneration of the area, which has suffered high unemployment since a crisis in the shipbuilding industry some ten years ago. The programme is expected to contribute to the creation of about 2,100 new jobs and the training of a further 4,800 people. These activities will, in particular, target SMEs, helping to increase export opportunities or introduce new technologies and processes.
