The second edition of the report on the European network on magnetic molecular materials research, funded by the European Community's Human Capital and Mobility (HCM) programme has recently been published by the European Commission. The report gives an updated account of the research conducted by the members of the network in the field of molecular magnetism. In particular, it discusses the building of molecular magnets and their characteristics, including in the case of nanoscale magnetic materials. The report then goes on to outline developments in areas such as: the rush to room temperature and beyond, spin crossover compounds, and nanoscale molecular clusters and molecular bistability. Some 700 European research networks were supported under the Human Capital and Mobility (HCM) research programme, part of the Third RTD Framework Programme. These activities are now supported, under the Fourth Framework Programme, by the Training and Mobility of Researchers programme (TMR).
