Faster image processing

A number of new algorithms have been developed for Image Processing. Applications of this technology include image recognition, compression and noise reduction.

The modified algorithms utilise new techniques resulting in a significant performance improvement over existing algorithms. The algorithms can be used to detect edges in images, so that even when the image has low contrast or a complicated background, local objects can still be detected. Industry will benefit from the reduced noise in images producing clearer pictures. Both of these features have applications in radiographic imaging for medical and technical diagnostics. Technical and design industries will find another use of the algorithms valuable. Loss-less image compression has applications in data storage and transmission for transporting information when network space is limited. The nature of the algorithms is such that separate parts can be run in parallel; this means that the computational workload can be distributed over a number of computers for faster execution.
