The Commission is organizing a European Forum on Cohesion, to be held in Brussels, Belgium, from 28 to 30 April 1997. The purpose of the forum is to consider the achievements of the Union's policies for cohesion, to consider adjustments and study possible improvements. The forum will examine the record on each of the priority objectives of EU cohesion policy, and discuss how best the various targets for EU assistance can be combined to encourage cohesion. Over a thousand representatives of the European institutions, local, regional and national authorities, as well as industry, workers and research institutes will participate in the forum. Participants from Central and Eastern European countries will also be invited. The forum will be complemented by the Commission's electronic forum, on the World Wide Web, which was launched on 1 March 1997. This WWW forum allows anybody to submit comments on any aspect of the EU's cohesion policies.
